Faster than takeout and built from pantry staples. The sauce reduces down and clings to every bit of beef.

Ingredients

  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 3 garlic cloves, minced
  • 2 tsp grated ginger
  • ¼ cup low-sodium soy sauce
  • 3 tbsp brown sugar
  • 1 tbsp rice vinegar
  • 1 tsp sesame oil
  • ¼ tsp crushed red pepper
  • 2 cups cooked jasmine rice
  • 2 green onions, sliced
  • 1 tsp sesame seeds
  • Optional: cucumber, shredded carrots, kimchi, fried egg

Method

  1. 1

Heat a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add the ground beef and cook 5–7 minutes, breaking it into small pieces. Drain excess fat if needed.

  2. 2

Add the garlic and ginger and cook about 30 seconds.

  3. 3

Whisk together the soy sauce, brown sugar, rice vinegar, sesame oil, and crushed red pepper, then pour it over the beef.

  4. 4

Cook another 2–3 minutes, stirring often, until the sauce reduces slightly and coats the meat.

  5. 5

Fill bowls with hot rice and spoon the beef over the top. Finish with green onions, sesame seeds, and your favorite toppings.
